Why is it important to get a facial?

You should give yourself a good facial at least once every 15 days because they are essential for maintaining fresh, healthy looking skin. You will see a great improvement in your complexion due to increased blood circulation and it will look younger, more refreshed and alive! Who doesn’t want beautiful skin?

Choosing products

There are so many lotions and potions to choose from that it is easy to just pick up the first thing you see but you must remember that many lotions and creams can do more harm than good. When choosing products for your skin you should always choose those that are natural, thus not filled with harsh chemicals, artificial colors or toxic ingredients. At M.Boutique we have created two fantastic products that you will love and that are perfect for giving yourself a facial at home; our Glycolic Cleanser and Facial Hydrator.

The facial

Facials can include many steps; cleansing, steaming, extraction, face masks, exfoliation, moisturizing etc but here is a simple facial that you can do in just 4 steps. Easy, right?…So let’s get started!

Step 1. Cleanse

The very first thing you need to do is remove all traces of makeup and dirt from your face using M.Boutique’s Glycolic Cleanser. Our cleanser has been specifically designed to focus on removing build-up, dirt, oil and other pollutants from your face, without disturbing it’s natural moisture barrier and without the use of harsh toxins used in many skincare products.

Rinse your face and neck with warm water, never hot as you could cause damage to your skin. Dot the cleanser on your cheeks, chin, forehead and neck and massage it in using a circular motion for about a minute. Make sure you massage it in around the nose and chin areas as these are prone to spots and build up. Rinse your face and neck with a warm face cloth. If you have makeup on your eyes remember to remove it with eye makeup remover.

Step 2. Steam

Boil some water on the stove or in the microwave, you only need a few cups to steam your face. Pour the water into a medium size ceramic or glass bowl. If you want you can add some natural herbs or essential oils like peppermint if you want an energizing steam or lavender if you want a relaxing steam but they are not necessary. Hold your face over the hot water (not too close as heat can cause inflammation) and put a towel over your head and the bowl so you create a kind of tent. Keep your face over the water for about ten minutes and breathe deeply. You don’t need to steam for longer.

Step 3. Tone

Now that you have cleansed and steamed, it is time to close your pores so that all that dirt doesn’t get back in! Natural toners are the best. Witch hazel, cucumber, rose oil and chamomile are great for dry skin types whereas juniper essential oil or lemon grass are fantastic for oily skin. Apple cider vinegar is also a good toner along with lemon juice but try the latter out on a small area of skin first as some people are more sensitive than others. Use a cotton pad to apply the toner over your forehead, cheeks, chin and nose.

Step 4. Hydrate

Last but not least you need to hydrate your skin with M.Boutique’s Facial Hydrator which has been specifically designed to focus on your skin’s hydration needs by replenishing it’s internal moisture, without the use of harsh toxins. After using it your skin will feel gently cleansed and will look visibly clearer and healthier.

Use a small amount:

  • For your forehead, start from the center (between your eyebrows) and move upwards and outwards over your eyebrows to the sides of your forehead.
  • For your nose area, start at your nose and move outwards over your cheeks towards your ears. Rub it in evenly so it doesn’t settle in the pores around your hairline.
  • For your chin area, start in the middle of your chin and work your way out towards your earlobes. Your skin is glowing!

Remember… The most important thing is to relax and enjoy it!
