Glycolic acid is on everyone’s lips at the moment, but what is it?
It is actually a powder substance in its raw state, made up of colorless crystals that have no smell.
Glycolic acid is part of a group known as AHA’s (alpha hydroxy acids). There are five different types, among which are lactic acid from milk, tartaric acid from grapes, citric acid from oranges and lemons, malic acid from apples and pears and finally glycolic acid which derives from sugar cane.
Less about the scientific stuff, what does it do?
As Glycolic acid has the smallest molecules in the group, it passes through the skin swiftly and easily and is wonderful when it comes to treating wrinkles & fine lines, dull, oily skin, blackheads and acne. It is also an excellent exfoliator, safely removing the dead skin cells on the outer layer of your skin to reveal fresh, younger–looking skin.
